Location:  Hybia Valley Community Center - 7950 Audubon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22306

Barbershop Men of Prayer (BMOP) will host a Drone Camp at the address above on 8/19/23 from 11:00am to 3pm, with the first one in Alexandria, VA.

The use of drones in America has exploded, and BMOP aims to introduce students in underserved communities to this exciting field. During the camp, students will learn to build and fly drones and may keep the drone if their parents sign the release form.

The goal is to spark interest in aviation and provide diverse opportunities for the youth in the underserved community.

Examples of drone applications include aerial photography, agricultural monitoring, search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, and environmental conservation. Students over a certain age can obtain the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, allowing them to operate drones commercially. This requires passing the Part 107 Knowledge Test and adhering to FAA regulations. The hands-on experience at the camp can inspire students to explore careers in the growing drone technology field.
